Ah yes, the three little words that mean so much. No, not I love you (you softies), but ‘National Baking Week’.
This is the week where diets are discarded like yesterday’s news; recipe books, unthumbed for months, are optimistically stacked ready for reading; kids sense their opportunity to fling some flour at each other and go bonkers with the butter icing. In short, National Baking Week is about as close to heaven as cooking gets.
The whole week was launched with a giant unicorn made of cake at the incredible Baketopia event in London's Kingley Court, where professional bakers including the Tattooed Bakers, Nevie Pie Cakes, Caking It and Conjurer’s Kitchen created a whole world of edible delights, some of which you can see on our Twitter page.
If you want a heads-up on some eclectic recipes to try, The Great British Bake Off's delectable 2012 champion John Whaite has created some fantastic recipes for the week that you can have a gander at here, give them a go, and let us know how you get on!
