Sweet tables, inspired by traditional Scandinavian smorgasbord, are making a comeback.
Although they look impressive, they are one of the most hassle free and simplest options for dessert. Everything can be prepared in advance, and set up before the meal begins.
When preparing a sweet table, let your imagination run wild. Alongside an elegant selection of macaroons and cupcakes, don’t be afraid of using old childhood favourites, such as flying saucers, lollipops or gobstoppers.
What to serve is entirely down to you. Cakes and cookies, tartlets, muffins, fruit and nut appetisers served on cocktail sticks, nuts in honey, candied fruit – these are just a few of thousands of additions you could bring to your sweet table.
Coloured glass beakers make for lovely presentation, as do ice-cream bowls made of frosted glass. For candies, sweets or colourful bubblegum use carafes, bowls, or even old jars for a ‘Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe’ feel.
The great thing about sweet tables is that they can be adapted to suit any party or occasion. Play with colours, textures, and mixtures of desserts. It’s a particularly helpful solution if you’re unsure of numbers, as no one will mind if there are plenty of leftovers to take home!
